[Sunday Times article edited for brevity…]
“HOUSEHOLDS are being hit with inflation-busting rises in their phone and TV bills, even though price increases across the economy are at their lowest for more than four years.
Sky customers will pay £2.50 a month more for Sky Sports TV from tomorrow
BT, meanwhile, has announced it will raise landline charges in December by £1 a month to £16.99
Virgin’s broadband-only customers face a £1.50, or 5.6%, monthly rise in October.
Analysis by Simplify Digital shows that since April 2008 the cost of a BT landline deal has increased seven times from £11.75 to £15.99 a month, or 36%.
BT will also increase its call charges in December from 9p to 9.58p a minute, while mobile calls will rise from 12p to 12.77p. Call connection fees — paid even if you do not speak to the person you call — are rising from 15p to 15.97p.
Sky contracts allow the company to increase bills by up to 10% within a year.”
